His cloak was his crowning glory; sable, thick and black and soft assin. “Bet he killed them all himself, he did,” Gared told the barracks over wine, “twisted their little heads off, our mighty warrior.” They had all shared the laugh.
特別是違反宗教教義的?;浇汤镉衧even deadly sins(七大罪): wrath(憤怒), greed(貪婪), sloth(懶惰), pride(驕傲), lust(淫欲), envy(嫉妒), and gluttony(暴食)。當(dāng)小伙伴要為你擋槍時(shí),要做個(gè)有擔(dān)當(dāng)?shù)娜耍躮an 的說(shuō),I don’t want you paying for my sins.
It is hard to take orders from a man you laughed at in your cups, Will reflected as he sat shivering atop his garron. Garedmust have felt the same.
laugh at 嘲笑。
in one’s cup 是老式英語(yǔ),指喝多了(get drunk)。
這句話的結(jié)構(gòu)是——主語(yǔ):Will,謂語(yǔ):reflect, as 引導(dǎo)的時(shí)間狀語(yǔ)從句,從句中的主語(yǔ)he, 謂語(yǔ)sit, 這時(shí)另一個(gè)動(dòng)詞shiver就要做非謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞處理,現(xiàn)在分詞表進(jìn)行表主動(dòng)表伴隨,后面的介賓短語(yǔ)atop his garron作地點(diǎn)狀語(yǔ)。
must have felt must 表示肯定的推測(cè)。
“Mormont said as we should track them, and we did,” Gared said. “They’re dead. Theyshan’t trouble us no more. There’s hard riding before us. I don’t like this weather. If it snows, we could be a fortnight getting back, and snow’s the best we can hope for.Ever seen an ice storm, my lord?”
shan’t = shall not, will 表將來(lái)時(shí),但是will 帶有主觀的愿望,shall則是表示客觀的,應(yīng)該。
sth. be the best someone can hope for. … Things aren't ideal, but that's the best you can hope for.
The lordling seemed not to hear him. He studied the deepening twilight in that half-bored, half-distracted way he had. Will had ridden with the knight long enough to understand that it was best not to interrupt him when he looked like that. “Tell me again what you saw, Will. All the details. Leave nothing out.”
這里的seem是系動(dòng)詞,后邊的to do 不定式做表語(yǔ),主系表結(jié)構(gòu)近似于等式,the lordling的態(tài)度= 不聽(tīng)他的意見(jiàn)。
這句話也可以這么說(shuō)Don’t leave anything out. I can’t believe that Gao Lin has been left out of the team. Could you tell me why was his name left off the list?
