at all的用法
用于否定句,意為:根本不、一點(diǎn)也不。如:
It wasn’t difficult at all. 這一點(diǎn)也不難。
There was nothing to eat at all. 根本沒(méi)什么可吃的。
To try and fail is better than not to try at all. 嘗試而失敗也比不嘗試好。
He speaks an English that I can barely understand at all. 他說(shuō)的英語(yǔ),我簡(jiǎn)直聽(tīng)不懂。
It’s quite extraordinary;I can’t understand it at all. 這件事太不尋常了,我根本沒(méi)法理解。
He made out that he was a student looking for a job. We later learnt that this wasn’t true at all. 他說(shuō)他是個(gè)在找工作的大學(xué)生。后來(lái)我們獲悉這根本不是事實(shí)。
注:在否定句中,at all 可位于句末,也可跟在否定詞后。如:
He isn’t tired at all. / He’s not at all tired. 他一點(diǎn)也不累。
另外,在口語(yǔ)中單獨(dú)說(shuō) not at all, 可用來(lái)回答感謝或道歉。如:
A:Thank you very much. 多謝你了。
B:Not at all. 不客氣。
A:I’m sorry to keep you waiting. 對(duì)不起,讓你久等了。
B:Oh, not at all. 噢,沒(méi)關(guān)系。
用于疑問(wèn)句,意為:到底、究竟、難道不。如:
Are you at all worried about it? 你難道對(duì)此不擔(dān)心嗎?
Do you play poker at all? 你會(huì)打撲克嗎?
Have you read any of the report at all? 那份報(bào)告你到底有沒(méi)有讀一點(diǎn)?
用于條件句,意為:假若、既然、即使、反正。如:
If you do it at all, do it well. 既然要做,就把它做好。
He’ll come before supper if he comes at all. 他要是來(lái),準(zhǔn)在晚飯以前。
用于肯定句, 意為:不管怎樣,竟然。如:
I was surprised at his coming at all. 我很奇怪, 他竟然來(lái)了。
You can come whenever you like---any time at all. 你什么時(shí)候想來(lái)就來(lái)——無(wú)論什么時(shí)候都行。
