外國(guó)語(yǔ)學(xué)院是一所朝氣蓬勃、欣欣向榮的年輕學(xué)院。學(xué)院現(xiàn)有英語(yǔ)、日語(yǔ)、法語(yǔ)三個(gè)本科專(zhuān)業(yè),除了承擔(dān)這三個(gè)本科專(zhuān)業(yè)的管理和教學(xué)任務(wù)以外,還承擔(dān)全校本科生、碩士生、博士生等各個(gè)層次的公共英語(yǔ)教學(xué)任務(wù)。學(xué)院下設(shè)英語(yǔ)系、日語(yǔ)系、法語(yǔ)系、大學(xué)英語(yǔ)教學(xué)部、研究生英語(yǔ)教學(xué)部、多媒體教學(xué)管理部、資料室、總支辦公室、行政辦公室等9個(gè)系、室(部),1個(gè)語(yǔ)言研究所;現(xiàn)有教職工121人,專(zhuān)任教師108人,90%以上教師具有碩士學(xué)位或正在攻讀碩士、博士學(xué)位。學(xué)院還常年聘請(qǐng)6-7位外籍教師、3-4位國(guó)內(nèi)其他重點(diǎn)高校的資深外語(yǔ)教授來(lái)院兼職任教。
學(xué)院教學(xué)設(shè)備齊全,設(shè)施優(yōu)良,教學(xué)與辦公條件處于全省前列?,F(xiàn)有外語(yǔ)大樓一座,10800平方米。樓內(nèi)設(shè)有外語(yǔ)專(zhuān)業(yè)專(zhuān)用教室25個(gè),1400余座位;多媒體語(yǔ)音教室16個(gè),1060座位;多媒體網(wǎng)絡(luò)教室14個(gè),800余座位。這些設(shè)備充分滿(mǎn)足了全院三個(gè)專(zhuān)業(yè)主要課程的教學(xué)、全校大學(xué)英語(yǔ)視聽(tīng)課教學(xué)和各專(zhuān)業(yè)學(xué)生網(wǎng)上自主學(xué)習(xí)的需要。
為了豐富學(xué)生的課余生活、營(yíng)造外語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)氣氛,學(xué)院團(tuán)總支、學(xué)生會(huì)積極組織開(kāi)展豐富多彩的外語(yǔ)課外活動(dòng),常年開(kāi)設(shè)“外語(yǔ)角”,不定期舉辦外語(yǔ)文化節(jié),定期舉行外語(yǔ)演講比賽、外語(yǔ)辯論賽、外語(yǔ)歌詠比賽、外語(yǔ)讀書(shū)報(bào)告會(huì)、外語(yǔ)寫(xiě)作比賽等活動(dòng),并定期出版院刊、院報(bào)。
學(xué)院歷來(lái)重視教學(xué)質(zhì)量和科研水平的同時(shí)提升,近年來(lái)已同國(guó)內(nèi)外多所大學(xué)建立了密切的學(xué)術(shù)交流關(guān)系,定期選派教師去英語(yǔ)、日語(yǔ)和法語(yǔ)國(guó)家留學(xué)、進(jìn)修。通過(guò)積極開(kāi)展科學(xué)研究活動(dòng),學(xué)院每年承擔(dān)各類(lèi)科研、教研項(xiàng)目20余項(xiàng),發(fā)表學(xué)術(shù)論文近百篇,出版專(zhuān)(譯)著、教材數(shù)部。
School of Foreign Languages
School of Foreign Languages (SFL) is a newly established School booming with vigor and vitality. It undertakes the task of the administration and teaching of students majoring in the English, Japanese French languages, coupled with the English education for all the undergraduate and postgraduate students from other schools of the university. It consists of five departments and one language research institute: Department of English, Department of Japanese, Department of French, Department of College English Education and Department of College English Education for Graduate Students and Language Research Institute, with 123 teachers and staff workers. Besides, each year, over a half dozen of foreign teachers are employed and 4 to 5 distinguished professors from other important universities in China are invited to teach and do co-research in the School.
SFL offers three undergraduate programs—English, Japanese and French, with around 800 full-time undergraduate students. It graduated its first 30 students majoring in English in 1998. Since then, it has enjoyed tremendous popularity. Currently, its graduated students are working in all walks of life concerning foreign trade, foreign affairs, technical translation, management, tourism, teaching, etc. throughout the country.
SFL is well equipped with modern and advanced teaching facilities----a 10800m2 teaching building with 25 classrooms exclusively used for foreign-language students. Besides, there are 15 multimedia classrooms with 1060 seats and 14 online classrooms with over 800 seats, which completely meet the demand of audio-video teaching and the students’ online self study for both foreign-language majors and non-majors of the university.
To enrich students’ extracurricular life and nurture a sound-learning environment for foreign-language studies, the General Office of Youth League and the Student’s Union of SFL have been organizing a variety of extracurricular activities including Foreign-Language Corner, Foreign-Language Speech Contests, Foreign-Language Debates, Foreign-Language Singing Contests, Foreign-Language Calligraphy Contests and Foreign-Language Book Presentations etc. on a regular basis.
SFL has always been focusing on the improvement of both its teaching quality and its capacity of scientific research in language studies. It has established close academic exchange relations with quite a few universities both at home and abroad, with many teachers having undertaking co-researches in the well-known universities of some English-speaking countries. Every year, its staff members undertake over twenty scientific research programs and publish over 100 academic books and papers. It is creating conditions for the enrollment of master-degree students in the near future.
