Now 和 then 指的是兩個(gè)時(shí)刻，now 是現(xiàn)在此刻，then 是另一刻，可以是過(guò)去，也可以是將來(lái)。

俗語(yǔ)謂「今時(shí)唔同往日」，用英語(yǔ)說(shuō)出來(lái)， 可以是 "then was then, now is now"。這里的 then 當(dāng)然是過(guò)去。

對(duì)白里的 then，是指未來(lái)的某一個(gè)時(shí)刻。譬如說(shuō)星期一上課時(shí)老師吩咐同學(xué)做功課，要他們星期四交，然后說(shuō)：

這里的 now，就是星期一，then 就是星期四。也就是說(shuō)，如果學(xué)生在星期一與星期四這段時(shí)間有不明白的地方，可以問(wèn)老師。

Every now and then 的意思略有不同，解作不時(shí)、時(shí)而。 例如某君平常不怎么抽煙，但有時(shí)也會(huì)和朋友吸一兩口。 我們可以說(shuō)：

He would smoke a cigarette every now and then.
